Dons Claim Share of OEC Title with 80-72 Win at Cypress College

CYPRESS - With an 80-72 win over Cypress College, the Dons claimed their first Orange Empire Conference Championship since the 1999-2000 season. The conference title is the first for the Dons under Head Coach Dave Breig who took over as head coach prior to the 2003-04 season. Breig's best finish before this season was third place when the Dons finished 8-6 in the 2004-05 season.

The title, however, is being shared with Saddleback College after the Gauchos finished with an identical 10-2 record in conference. Both teams were kept from sole possession of the title by one opponent. The Dons were held back by the Gauchos who were the only team to defeat SAC in conference while Saddleback dropped both of its games to Irvine Valley College.

Outside of the two losses to Saddleback College, the Dons were forced to pull off several close victories to win the championship. Both of the Dons games against Irvine Valley were close, with the first game going to overtime.

The Dons also got trouble against Riverside City College in the first meeting while Cypress College nearly derailed SAC's title-dreams in the first round.
