Dons Lose Tough Match to Cypress in Three Straight

The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's volleyball team lost in straight sets to visiting Cypress College in an Orange Empire Conference match. The final scores were 25-20, 25-19 and 25-14.

The Dons opened the first game with a 3-0 lead before building their lead up to 11-5. Marissa Kohler led the way in the early stages as she recorded two kills and a block.

Cypress cut into the Dons lead at 14-10 but SAC answered with three-straight points to establish a 17-10 lead. The Chargers then stormed back, out-scoring the Dons 13-2 to take a 23-19 lead.

After a Cypress error made the score 23-20, the Chargers scored two-straight points to win the first game 25-20.

The Dons held the early lead in the second game as well before the teams played to a 3-3 tie. The Dons broke the tie with three-straight points to take a 6-3 lead before ultimately holding a 7-4 lead.

The Chargers came back to tie the game at 7-7 before taking their first lead of the game at 8-7. The Dons retook the lead at 10-9 and held the lead to 12-10. Cypress again came back to tie the game, this time at 12-12, and again at 13-13.

Neither team took control of the game until it was tied at 16-16. Cypress broke the eighth tie of the game with four-straight points to take a 20-16 lead. The Chargers went on to win the game 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Cypress jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the third game before building a 10-4 lead. The Dons cut into the Chargers lead at 13-9 but Cypress answered with a 12-5 run to win the game, and the match, by a score of 25-14.
