Five Dons Earn All-Conference Honors After OEC Finals

 

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – On Thursday morning, the 2017 Orange Empire Conference Cross Country Finals were held at Oso Viejo Park.

With conference bragging rights on the line, the Santa Ana Cross Country teams went into the event ready to make some noise.

At the end of the day, the Don men ran to a second-place finish while the women placed 5th overall.

Eric Jimenez and Eduardo Guapilla led the way for the Dons as they have all year. Jimenez impressed with a third-place finish, coming in at 21:22.1 and Guapilla took the 5th place spot with a time of 21:31.5. Both were selected to the Orange Empire All-Conference First Team.  

On the women's side, a trio of Dons finished in the top 14 in the 5k event. Andrea Anaya came in 10th overall with a time of 20:23.4 and was followed closely by Monique Azpeitia as she came in at 20:41.9 for the 11th place finish. Jaylynn Vega was the third Don to finish, taking 14th place with a time of 21:06.9. The Santa Ana trio was awarded three spots on the All-Conference 2nd team.

With OEC Finals in the books, the Santa Ana Cross Country program will begin preparing for the SoCal Finals which will take place on Friday, November 3rd at Central Park in Santa Clarita.
