The Don Softball program saw a significant boost in wins from 1994 to 1995 after Christina McCloskey arrived in Santa Ana as a freshman from Foothill High School.
 
McCloskey had one of the best freshman seasons in school history as she posted a .375 batting average with 54 hits, 37 runs, 18 runs batted in and 14 walks to lead the Dons to a 26-18 record and a third place finish in the Orange Empire Conference.
 
The shortstop was tabbed First Team All-OEC and was named Don’s Co-MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. She also posted a 6-3 record with a 3.62 earned run average on the mound.
 
In 1995, McCloskey returned for her sophomore season and somehow managed to post even bigger numbers as she improved her batting average to .403 with 58 hits while driving in 21 runs and stealing 21 bags. She was again named First Team All-OEC while also making the 1995 NSCA/Louisville Slugger Cal JC All-
American First Team.
 
In addition to all the awards, she also led the Dons to their first Orange Empire Conference Championship since 1987 with a 29-10 overall record.
 
McCloskey went on to play at the University of Oklahoma and became a letter winner for the Sooners in 1997.
