Mellano's Home Run Propels Win Over Chaffey

SANTA ANA- To continue the winning streak over Chaffey, the Dons (4-1) used sophomore Justin Mellano's home run in the fourth inning to lead off to a 4-1 win over Chaffey College (4-3). Today's win follows Thursday's 11-1 win over the Panthers.

At the top of the sixth inning Oscar Martinez from Chaffey College tied the game by reaching first on an error and bringing in an unearned run. To tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, freshman Juan Gonzalez was at bat with bases loaded to hit a double and score in freshmen Erick Leef and Ricardo Salinas to take back the lead for the SAC 3-1.

To seal the 4-1 win for the Dons, Salinas picked up his first RBI of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when he hit a single that scored sophomore Bobby Vasquez.

Freshman Steven Ybarra (1-1) picked up the win as he allowed one run, unearned, on two hits in two innings. Nathan Geissler took the loss for Chaffey after allowing one run, one unearned, on four hits.

Dons Baseball will play again on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at San Diego Mesa at 2:00 p.m.
