Sanchez Pitches Dons to 7-1 Win over Mt. SAC

SANTA ANA- The Dons defeated Mt. San Antonio College with a 7-1 home win. The win improves the Dons to 8-1 on the season while Mt. SAC falls to 5-6.

Freshman Juan Gonzalez was the first to score for SAC on a balk by Mt. SAC pitcher Jacob Castillo in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded, sophomore Bobby Vasquez doubled in freshman Ricardo Salinas, freshman Bryan Leef and sophomore Justin Mellano. Vasquez then advanced on a wild pitch to third base to be batted in by freshman Erick Leef for the RBI to lead the Dons 5-0.

Sophomore Julio Rivera homered in the third inning and also batted in sophomore Derek Reilly in the sixth inning. The Mounties scored their run from a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, but were held off by the Dons 7-1.

Sophomore pitcher Guillermo Sanchez (1-0) got the win for Santa Ana College as he held Mt. SAC to zero runs on two hits in five innings of work. For Mt. SAC, Jacob Castillo (1-1) took the loss as he allowed all seven runs, all earned, on six hits over five innings.

Dons baseball will play again Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the College of the Desert at 2:00 p.m.
