Men’s Basketball Wins Home Opener Over Long Beach 92-81

SANTA ANA- Dons basketball defeated Long Beach City College in their 2016-17 non-conference home opener match 92-81. This was the third game of the 2016-17 season for the Dons (0-2) and the Vikings (0-2).

Sophomore Andrew Harper opened the game for SAC with a jump shot to score the first points. The Vikings answered back with a three-pointer, but sophomore Jason Walker from Western High School kept the lead for the Dons with his first three-pointer. Freshman Xavier Gunter scored eight points in the first half and had ten rebounds to secure the 42-41 lead.

During the second half, Jason Walker scored the first points with a three-pointer with another assist from freshman Xavier Gunter. Freshman Robby Bracho from Corona del Mar High School was next up to score seven points in a row to keep the Dons ahead of the Vikings 52-45.  The Dons finished the game with a 92-81 win.

Royal Hardaway tied with Jason Walker for ten points each in the second half against Long Beach. Xavier Gunter led the Dons with a grand total of 17 rebounds and two assists.

Dons basketball will play again in the El Camino Tournament on Nov. 18 against LA Trade Teach at 5 p.m.
