GLENDORA - On the heels of their 15-10 win to open the season, the Dons found themselves tested before pulling out a 7-6 win over Caltech in their second game of the Citrus Tournament.
Caltech scored first before Micah Mathis tied the game at 1-1 halfway through the first quarter. Caltech would reclaim the lead before the first quarter ended with both teams adding a goal in the second quarter, giving Caltech a 3-2 lead at the half.
The Dons finally broke through in the third quarter, outscoring Caltech 3-1, with Nicholas Todd's goal tying the game at 3-3 before Nick Beavers put the Dons up 4-3.
Duncan Wilson added a goal in the third to extend the Dons lead to 5-3 before Caltech scored with 2:18 left in the frame to make the score 5-4. Beavers opened scoring in the fourth to put the Dons up 6-4 with Caltech pulling within one at 6-5 with 3:49 left.
Wilson scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal with 1:37 left before Caltech's goal 13 seconds later made the final score 7-6.
Beavers led the way for the Dons with three goals followed by Wilson with two and Marshall Pereda and Todd adding a goal apiece. Wes Kobel made 15 saves for the Dons in the win.
