SANTA ANA- The Santa Ana College athletic department honored its 2016-2017 Scholar Athletes inbetween the men's and women's basketball games against Cypress College. In total, 89 student-athletes were recognized as Scholar Athletes.

At the conclusion of the recognition ceremony, the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year was Thomas Flynn-Beccera of the football team and the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year was Blaysen Varnadoe of the women's basketball team.

Both Varnadoe and Flynn-Becerra will receive a $1,500 scholarship from the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame at the 2017 Ed Arnold Golf Classic held on May 8 at Mission Viejo Country Club.

Student-athletes are recognized for earning at least a 3.0 GPA and a minimum of 12 units while competing for an intercollegiate team at Santa Ana College.
