SANTA ANA - The Dons lost their third game of the young season after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of College of the Canyons in a non-conference game on Friday. The final score could have been more lopsided if it weren't for the 11 shots turned away by keeper Monica Hernandez.

Throughout the game, Hernandez found herself one-on-one with a Canyons' attacker but turned away all but two shots. The most common Cougar to challenge Hernandez was Brittany Sayre who managed six shots on goal, scoring on one. Sayre notched the first goal of the game in the 25th minute.

But only two minutes passed before the Dons put the equalizer on the board. Marisol Quintero sent a long ball in from the midline that found Zulema Chavez. After Chavez dribbled around a handful of defenders, she fired a shot into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1 in the 27th minute.

The tie would hold up until the 60th minute when Elvia Contreras fed Katie Colletta who beat Hernandez for the game-winning goal. That goal came across on one of the Cougars 10 shots in the second half while the Dons were unable to generate a single shot in the half.

The Dons return to action on Tuesday when they host Palomar College at 4:00 p.m.
