Dons Get First Win of Season in Big Way, Shut Out Palomar 5-0

SANTA ANA - It was a tale of two halves for the Dons against Palomar College. After failing to score on 13 first-half shots, the Dons converted five goals on 15 shots in the second half for their first win of the season.

Kenia Vasquez got the scoring started in the 55th minute when she scored on a corner kick from Claudia Quintero. The Dons second goal, in the 62nd minute, also came on a corner kick when Marisol Quintero sent her corner kick straight into the goal.

Marisol Quintero added another goal in the 74th minute when she stole the ball at the top of the box and managed to sneak a shot in just under the cross bar. Claudia Quintero transitioned from passer to scorer when she scored in the 77th minute when she beat the Comets keeper to a long pass from Xochitl Sandoval and chipped a shot into the goal.

Zulema Chavez capped the scoring in the 83rd minute when she took a pass from Brenda Ramirez in the middle of the box and fired a quick shot that found the net, giving the Dons the 5-0 victory.

Monica Hernandez and Katie Delgado split the shut out win with Hernandez playing the majority of the game. Neither keeper faced a single shot as Palomar took four shots in the game with none of them on goal.
