SANTA ANA - The Dons recorded their second-straight Orange Empire Conference win with a 2-1 victory at home over Golden West College. The win evens the season series with the home team winning both games.

The Rustlers (6-7-1, 4-4-1) scored first when Alyssa Gaitan sent a ball over the top of the Dons defense that found Kahri Golden. After a quick touch, Golden fired a shot into the net, putting Golden West up 1-0 in the 10th minute.

The Dons (3-9-2, 2-5-2) got the equalizing goal before half time when Kristina Alatorre controlled a ball that got away from Golden West's defense. Alatorre then took a shot that rolled into the goal, tying the game at 1-1 in the 40th minute.

The game-winning goal came in the 86th minute when Nicki Munoz sent a cross from the left side to the top of the box. Two Dons were at the top of the box but it was Zulema Chavez who came away with the ball. Once she controlled the pass, she fired a shot just under the cross bar, sending the Dons to the 2-1 victory.

Monica Hernandez turned away eight shots in goal for the Dons while allowing the one goal early. Olivia Bedard made four saves for the Rustlers with two goals against.

The Dons hit the road next week playing at Cypress College on Tuesday then at Saddleback College on Friday. Both games start at 3:00 p.m.
