Dons Drop Third-Straight to Open the Season with Loss to Southwestern

SANTA ANA - The Dons fell to 0-3 on the young season following their straight-set loss to visiting Southwestern College. The final game scores were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-12.

The first game was the most contested as the two teams played up to an 8-8 tie before Alejandra Lopez' service ace gave the Dons a 9-8 lead. The Dons continued to hold the lead up to 17-16 before the Jaguars tied the set at 17-17.

Tori Sparks broke that tie with a kill before Southwestern five-straight points to take the lead for good at 23-18 before ultimately winning the set 25-21.

The second set stayed close early with the Dons holding a 7-5 lead before the Jaguars went on a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. After the Dons pulled within one at 12-11, the Jaguars went on a 5-0 run to establish a 17-11 lead. Southwestern closed the set out on an 8-4 run to win 25-15.

After the Dons scored the first point of the third set, Southwestern jumped out to an 8-1 lead and never looked back. The Dons were able to pull within three at 8-5 but the set belonged to the Jaguars who went on to win 25-12.

The Dons were led by Christine Chavez who had seven kills followed by Marissa Kohler with five kills. Violet Falealili led the way with 15 assists while Netina Moemoe had a team-high 18 digs.
