SANTA ANA - Despite losing the Orange Empire Conference match in four sets to Cypress College, the Dons walked away with a positive note as they picked up a set win in the third set. The final game scores were 25-20, 25-15, 14-25 and 25-14.

The first set could have gone either way as the Dons (2-16, 0-11) held the early lead at 9-5 before the Chargers (9-8, 8-3) rallied back to grab a 21-14 lead. However, the Dons fought back, pulling within four late at 24-20 before Cypress put the set away 25-20.

In the second set, it was the Chargers with an early lead at 6-3 before the Dons pulled within three at 9-6. Cypress would take control of the set after that as they used an 11-3 run to take a 20-9 lead before winning 25-15.

It was the third set when the Dons snapped their 37-set losing streak dating back to the end of last season. After the teams played to a 4-4 tie, the Dons used a 7-0 run to establish a commanding 11-4 lead. From there, the Dons continued to pull away before winning easily 25-14.

However, that run wouldn't last as Cypress quickly jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set. The Dons cut the lead down to four at 9-5 but the rest of the set, and the match, belonged to the Chargers who went on to a 25-14 win in the final set.
