Dons Finish 7th at Golden West Invitational, 3rd Amongst OEC Teams

HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Dons headed to Central Park in Huntington Beach for their third event of the season where they finished in seventh place out of 16 teams at the Golden West Invitational.

All five of the Orange Empire Conference teams that competed finished in sequential order, led by Fullerton College in fifth place. Riverside City College followed in sixth place with the Dons in seventh, host Golden West College in eighth and Santiago Canyon College in ninth.

Individually, the Dons were led by Quetzalin Tepayotl who finished in 29th place with a time of 20:39 followed by Alicia Sotelo in 34th place. Sotelo turned in a time of 20:45.

Following the leaders was Cecilia Chavez in 64th place (22:08), Elisa Mendez in 70th place (22:24), and Laura Ramirez right behind her in 71st place (22:27).

Not scoring for the Dons was Yulma Gonzalez in 75th and Bianca Gonzalez in 82nd.

Following the race, Head Coach Miriam Mitzel was happy with the results but knew the team could improve.

"They had their best race of the season so far," Mitzel said. "But they will do much better at the Orange Empire Conference Championships when we get there." 

The Dons return to action when they host the Brubaker Invitational at Irvine Park on October 5 after a week off. The invitational kicks off at 10:00 a.m.
