Dons Fall to Irvine Valley College in Three Sets of an Orange Empire Conference Match

SANTA ANA - The Dons fell to visiting Irvine Valley College in straight sets of an Orange Empire Conference match. The Dons (3-15, 0-10) lost to the Lasers (16-0, 10-0) by final game scores of 25-7, 25-17 and 25-6.

The Lasers took control of the first set early with a 7-0 run to open the match. The Dons would get points with a Danielle Goldowski service ace, a Bejani Turley kill, a Michelle Nguyen kill and an Esther Arroyo kill. But Irvine Valley would ultimately win the set 25-7.

The Dons would come back in the second set with an opening kill from Iliana Mendoza, marking the first of the Dons five leads in the sets. Following Mendoza's kill, the Dons tied the set at 3-3 on an Arroyo kill before tying the set again on a Netina Moemoe service ace. Bejani Turley would later put the Dons up 11-10 before the Dons took their final lead of the set at 12-11.

Irvine Valley would come back to tie the set at 12-12 before extending its lead to 20-15. The Dons got the next point to cut the Lasers lead to 20-16, but Irvine Valley would close out the set on a 5-1 run to win the set 25-17.

The third set found the Lasers taking control early again, much like the first set. After scoring the set's first five points, Irvine Valley would pull out to a 15-1 lead. The Dons would break that run with four-straight points, including an Nguyen kill and a Goldowski service ace. But the Lasers would answer with another run, closing out the set with a 10-1 run to win 25-6.
