SANTA ANA, Calif. - Santa Ana Football controlled the line of scrimmage and racked up 269 yards on the ground to keep the West LA Wildcats at bay in their 37-16 win on Saturday.
Freshman quarterback Nate Bento led the way with 120 rushing yards and two touchdowns to go with 148 yards through the air.
Veteran running backs Owen Smith and William Saucedo posted big numbers once again, combining for 161 yards and three scores.
The Dons were solid on the defensive end as well as they held West LA to just 195 yards and 16 points.
Josef Oborny and Zamir Richardson provided the pass rush that the Don defense has come to be known for. The duo collected nine tackles and 2.5 sacks to anchor the SAC defense.
Nate Rios, Anthony Gomez and Mario Evans added four tackles a piece while defensive back Justin Harris provided the only takeaway of the day with an interception in the first quarter.
The win improves Santa Ana's record to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in American Metro League play. They'll now prepare for the biggest game of the season on Saturday when they host Chaffey College (7-1, 3-0) at 1:00 p.m.
