Kim Nutter is the Head Coach of the Santa Ana College softball program. Nutter originally joined the staff in 1992, serving as the head coach until the 2001 season before returning from 2003-2006. Nutter compiled a 361-228-8 record while posting a winning record in 11 of her 14 seasons during that span. Her latest stint as head coach began prior to the 2010 season.

During her tenure as head coach, Nutter led the Dons to two Orange Empire Conference championships (1995, 2001) while being named Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year three times.

A product of Marina High School in Huntington Beach, Nutter lettered in softball, volleyball, basketball and field hockey before attending Golden West College where she played softball and volleyball.

At Marina, Nutter was part of two California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) 4A championship softball teams and was named player-of-the-year for her efforts in 1979. She was also named All-CIF three times.

At Golden West, she participated on the 1979 volleyball and 1981 softball teams that won California community college championships. Following the championship in 1981, Nutter was named California community college player-of-the-year for her pivotal role with the Rustlers.

Nutter then transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where she played softball, volleyball and soccer. She received All-America status in softball while earning her bachelor’s degree in physical education.

Following her collegiate career, Nutter competed in the Amateur Softball Association and was a member of the national champion Orange Majestics in 1987. In 1998, Nutter competed professionally for the Tampa Bay Firestix as the oldest player in league history, a record that still stands. She also competed in six Olympic festivals; five times in softball and once in team handball.

She later went on to get her master’s degree in education from Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Before coming to Santa Ana, Nutter was the head women’s volleyball and softball coach at Rio Hondo College for three seasons (1985-88) and was named Foothill Conference Coach of the Year for softball twice. She led the Roadrunners to a conference championship in 1988 and was named the California Community College Softball Coach of the Year in 1989.
