Aguilar Shines in 600M, Dons Compete in First Meet of the 2024 Season

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Track & Field program began the 2024 season on Friday, February 9th at the Riverside City College Early Bird Meet. 

SAC saw its men's team finish fifth overall while Sonsorey Allen made her collegiate debut on the women's side. 

The Dons started the day on the field and had six athletes compete in four different events.

Josef Oborny collected the first two points of the meet for SAC as he posted a 35.86M mark to place seventh in the discus throw event. The freshman also competed in the hammer throw, shot put and javelin in his first appearance of the year. 

Edward Castro, Angel Leele, Zamir Richardson, Isaac Ortiz and Matthew Sanchez rounded out the Dons who made their debut in field events. 

On the track, it was Christopher Aguilar who stole the show for the Dons as he placed first in the 600M race with a time of 1:26.65 for 10 team points. 

SAC earned five more points in the 4 x 400 relay run by Alec Camilo, Christopher Aguilar, Jacob Quinn and Isaac Ortiz. The group clocked in at 3:41.84 for a fourth place finish.

The Dons got their last four points from Jacob Quinn as he finished fifth in the 400M hurdles with a time of 59.24. 

On the women's side, Sonsorey Allen was the lone Don to compete in the meet. The freshman from Magnolia Science Academy placed 29th in the 60M with a time of 9.29 and followed that with a 54.81 mark in the 300M. 

Santa Ana will be back in action on Friday, February 23rd for the Ron Allice Open at Long Beach City College.
