SAC Men Finish 9th in the State Championships

 FRESNO, Calif. – The Santa Ana College Men's Cross-Country team competed in the 2017 CCCAA State Championships on Saturday morning.

Out of 21 teams, the Dons finished 9th with a total time of 1:48.29 and an average time of 21:41. This marks the second year in a row that the Dons have finished in the top 10 in the state.

Sophomore Eric Jimenez raced to a 17th place finish to lead the Dons with a time of 20:52.6 while Eduardo Guapilla followed him closely, coming in at 20:59.3 to take 24th place.

Rounding out the group of Dons was Jesus Fuentes (21:39.4), Lizandro Hernandez (21:59.7), Daniel Gonzalez, Pablo Quinonez (23:03.9), and Octavio Moreno (23:37.0).

"I'm very proud of our men. They raced very hard and represented Santa Ana College well," said Head Coach Miriam Mitzel.

On the women's side, Andrea Anaya was the only Don to qualify as an individual. She competed against 160 athletes, earning 97th place with a time 20:45.6.

The Dons consider the 2017 season a success and look forward to bringing many of their athletes back in 2018.
