SAC Alum Bill Vinovich to Officiate Super Bowl XLIX

Former Santa Ana College football player Bill Vinovich will serve as the referee for this Sunday's Super Bowl XLIX being played in Glendale, Arizona at the University of Phoenix Stadium. It will mark his second playoff game as the official this season, as he also oversaw the AFC divisional playoff between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens.

Vinovich, who played football at Santa Ana College from 1979-1980, is currently on his second stint as a NFL official. He began officiating in the NFL in 2001 as a side judge before being promoted to referee in 2004.

Following the 2006 season, Vinovich stepped down as a referee due to medical conditions before returning as a referee for the 2012 season. He has continued to officiate NFL games ever since. He also serves as a college basketball official.

Following his two seasons at Santa Ana College, Vinovich continued his football and academic career at the University of San Diego where he played wide receiver for the Toreros during the 1981 and 1982 seasons before graduating in 1983.
