Dons Power Past Golden West 13-4

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana Softball team kept pace in the race for an Orange Empire Conference championship with another conference win on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated the Golden West Rustlers 13-4 in five innings.

After gaining a two run lead, the Dons were tested in the third as the Rustlers rallied for four runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead. Santa Ana quickly responded in the next half inning with nine runs of their own to take control of the game. In the fourth, SAC added two more runs to make it a nine run game and enforce the mercy rule.

Priscilla De La Torre earned her sixth win of the season by going three innings and allowing just two earned runs. She is now tied for fourth in the conference in wins and ranked ninth in earned run average. Victoria Moreno came in to relieve her in the fourth inning and had two scoreless innings to go along with a strikeout in her second appearance on the mound this season.

The Dons again relied on Karlee Rivera for offense in this one, as she went 3-3 with a walk and two RBI's. Tiana Patrick chipped in with two hits and a run while Jeana Gonzales and Stephanie Rojas picked up two RBI's apiece.

Santa Ana improves to 11-7, 5-1 with a firm grip on second place with the win while Golden West drops to 5-15, 1-5. Next game for Santa Ana Softball will be at Saddleback College on Friday, March, 9th at 2:00 p.m.
