Beard Drops 29 to Lead Dons to 73-56 Win Over LATTC

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Anaya Beard scored 29 and grabbed 19 rebounds while Mia Rivera flirted with a triple double as she added 12 points, nine assists and seven rebounds to lead Santa Ana Women's Basketball to a 73-56 win against LA Trade Tech on Tuesday night. 

Beard finished with season highs in both points and rebounds, going 13-of-20 from the field and helping the Dons (6-1) win the rebounds battle 59-36.

Rivera controlled the game with her own season high in assists and also notched her third game with seven or more.

After posting 93 points in their home opener just a week prior, Santa Ana picked up where they left off in the first quarter, hitting four threes while shooting 47.6 percent from the field to jump out to a 27-13 lead. 

Kiki Graham hit three of those, on her way to a 14 point night.

The LATTC Beavers (2-6) responded in the second quarter as they put up a 20 spot and hit four of there own threes to cut into the lead (44-33) at the break. 

Serenity Johnson went 7-of-14 from the field with four threes and 18 points in the half to keep the Beavers in the game.

Both teams made defensive adjustments in the second half as neither scored over 20 in the last two quarters.

The Dons continued to feed Beard while Rivera and Graham chipped in to give themselves some breathing room, extending the lead to 18 at the 3:22 mark in the third. 

Santa Ana would hang on to win by 17 for their sixth win of the year and second consecutive.

The Dons will return on Thursday, December 5th to host their annual tournament starting with a big matchup against San Deigo Mesa (5-1) on day one.
