SANTA ANA - While both goals came late in the match, the Dons moved to 2-0-0 on the early season with a 2-0 win over visiting Southwestern College. This is the first time since 2009 that the Dons have opened a season with back-to-back wins while the visiting Jaguars fall to 0-3-0.

Gabriela Rodriguez scored the first goal for the Dons when she dribbled through Southwestern's defense before beating the goalkeeper one-on-one for the goal in the 68th minute.

Rodriguez had a hand in the second goal of the match as well when she sent a pass from inside the Dons defensive zone that found Alex Peinado. After quickly heading the ball past a defender, Peinado had just the keeper to beat and her shot to the far post found the back of the net seconds into stoppage time.

In goal, Joey Martinez turned away all three shots she faced in 90 minutes while Southwestern's Nancy Romano also made three saves along with the two goals against.

Next Tuesday, September 8, the Dons hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Palomar College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
