SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Women's Soccer team opened the 2023 season with a 1-0 shutout of the Norco College Mustangs on Tuesday afternoon. 

Freshman midfielder Karen Juarez scored the only goal of the day in the 39th minute on a textbook cross from fellow freshman Brianna Mejia. 

Although the Dons held the lead and looked in control in the first half, they found themselves on the defensive end of the field for much of the second half. 

Freshman goalkeeper Aurea Macedonio stepped up to earn her first shutout with four saves including a couple of clutch ones in the last 10 minutes of play. 

The Dons managed to hold on to the lead to start their season on the right foot while dropping the Mustang's record to 0-2.

SAC will have some time to make adjustments and prepare before their next match which will be on September 5th at Mt. San Jacinto College. The MSJC Eagles defeated Imperial Valley College 5-0 in their first match of the season on Friday. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
