Dons Fall to Long Beach City in Third Place Game; Merced Wins Tournament

SANTA ANA - The Dons fell to Long Beach City College 69-55 in the third place game of the Santa Ana College Tournament. The loss was the Dons second loss to Long Beach City this season after losing the second game of the year at Long Beach, 71-54.

The visiting Vikings took advantage of their size difference against the Dons, grabbing 50 rebounds with 24 coming on the offensive side of the ball. Both Kaaron King and Talia Rayford had 10 rebounds apiece for Long Beach, one behind the game-leader, Berlin Ohanesian, who grabbed 11 rebounds for the Dons.

Ohanesian also had 12 points for the Dons, giving her a double-double while teammate Ashley Whisler scored 16 points. Liliana Gonzalez also got into double-figures for the Dons as she scored 15 points.

For the Vikings, Regina Romain scored a game-high 19 points, all in the first half while Rayford scored 13 points for the games other double-double.

Tournament Recap Day Three - BRACKETS

Bakersfield College rebounded from their opening game loss and won two-straight games, including a 63-59 victory over Mira Costa College to claim the Consolation Championship.

Long Beach City College then defeated the host Dons 69-55 for third place.

Finally, in the championship game, Merced College wrapped up its great weekend with a 45-40 win over Moorpark College to claim the 2012 Santa Ana College Tournament Championship. Merced entered the tournament 0-3, and leaves with a 3-3 record.
