SANTA ANA - The Dons lost a hard-fought game with Orange Coast College in four sets of a home Orange Empire Conference match. The set scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-12 and 25-10.

Chloe Anderson opened the match for the Dons (1-10, 0-4) with a kill before extending the lead to 3-1 with another kill. After Orange Coast (10-3, 2-2) tied the set at 3-3, the Dons reclaimed the lead at 6-3 with back-to-back kills by Madison Logan before an Anderson kill capped the 3-0 run.

The Dons would continue to lead for much of the set as they got kills from Trinh Ngoc Nguyen, Filana Duvan, Shaila Aceves and Fernanda Ruiz. The Pirates, however, began chipping away at the Dons lead before eventually tying the set at 20-20. Orange Coast broke that tie to claim its first lead of the match before going on to win 25-20.

The second set had the Pirates scoring first before an Anderson kill tied the set early at 1-1. Orange Coast broke that tie, and two more that followed before the Dons got their first lead at 5-4. After the Dons went on a 4-1 run to take a 9-5 lead, the Pirates came back to tie the set at 10-10.

Orange Coast broke that tie with a 4-1 run of its own to take a 14-11 lead before building their lead up to 17-13. But the Dons would use a 7-0 run with Kathryn Apodaca serving to jump ahead to a 20-17 lead. Orange Coast kept the set close at 22-21 but the Dons pulled away to win the set 25-21 on an Aceves service ace.

The Dons seemed poised to ride the momentum from that victory early in the third set as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Pirates battled back to force ties at 5-5 and 8-8. Following the latter tie, Orange Coast used a 17-4 run to close out the third set and win 25-12.

The fourth, and final, set was controlled by Orange Coast from the get go as the Pirates opened the set with a 10-3 lead. That lead would be extended to 15-5 and 20-8 before the Pirates won the set, and the match, with a final score of 25-10.
