SANTA ANA - The Dons lost their latest Orange Empire Conference match to visiting Cypress College by scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-16. The loss drops the Dons to 1-16 overall and 0-10 in conference while Cypress improves to 17-7 and 8-2.

The first set went to the Chargers despite the Dons jumping out to an early 5-2 lead. The Dons got early points at 3-0 on a Madison Logan service ace and 4-0 on a Trinh Ngoc Nguyen kill. The 5-2 lead also came on a Nguyen kill. But Cypress would pull away from there with the Dons only getting points at 9-6 on a Fernanda Ruiz kill and 14-8 on a Logan kill before the Chargers won 25-10.

In the second set, Cypress took the early lead at 7-1 with the Dons point coming at 3-1 on a Nguyen kill. Chloe Anderson would add a kill at 9-3 before Cypress pulled out to a 16-6 lead. The Dons scored four of the next five points on two kills by Anderson and two kills by Logan before the Chargers won 25-11.

In the third set, the score remained close early on with the Dons trailing by just one at 5-4 after a rotation error by Cypress. But the Chargers would bounce back with the next five points before a Haylie Slater kill stopped the run.

That kill sparked a run for the Dons as they battled back to just a one-point deficit at 12-11. Adabella Ruiz, Logan and Kathryn Apodaca each had a kill while Filana Duvan had a service ace during the run. The Dons would keep the set close up to 17-13 on an Anderson kill before Cypress closed out the set, and the match, by a final of 25-16.
