Dons Lose to Fullerton College in Straight Sets

SANTA ANA - The Dons lost in straight sets of an Orange Empire Conference match to visiting Fullerton College. The set scores in the match were 25-21, 25-19 and 25-15.

Fullerton (13-7, 8-4) opened the first set with an early 8-1 lead before the Dons (1-18, 0-12) slowly chipped away at the lead and getting as close as three points at 21-18. During that portion of the set, the Dons got kills from Chloe Anderson, Madison Logan and Adabella Ruiz while also getting two service aces from Madison Logan. After Fullerton got to set point at 24-19, the Dons got two more points on a Trinh Ngoc Nguyen kill and an Anderson kill before the Hornets won 25-21.

In the second set, the Dons kept the score close from the start as they quickly turned a 3-0 deficit into a 4-4 tie on an Adabella Ruiz kill. After the Hornets reclaimed the lead at 5-4, the Dons got back-to-back kills by Anderson to take their first lead at 6-5.

Fullerton once again took the lead but weren't able to pull away from the Dons asa Logan kill kept the Dons within two at 14-12. The Hornets then went on a 4-0 run to take an 18-12 lead but the Dons would battle back again, getting within three points on a Haylie Slater service ace at 21-18. But Fullerton closed out the second set with a 4-1 run, with the Dons lone point coming on an Anderson kill.

The third set opened with the Dons taking an early 6-1 lead with Anderson recording four kills. Anderson's fifth kill of the set made the score 7-3 before Fullerton used a 14-0 run to take control of the set at 17-7. The Dons would put together a run late to cut into the Hornets lead but Fullerton would ultimately win the set, and the match, by a score of 25-15.
