Armstrong Leads Dons to First Win in Conference

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Gabe Armstrong went to work for the Santa Ana College Baseball team on Saturday afternoon, as he recorded eight and a third innings to earn the win over the Cypress Chargers.

Armstrong struck out three batters, walked one, and allowed only two earned runs before handing the ball over to his teammate Cole Hoskins in the ninth. With the win, he improves his record to 3-0 on the season, while the Dons go to 15-7 overall, 1-5 in conference play.

On the offensive side, left fielder Bryan Leef had himself a day. Leef went 4-4 with a RBI against the Charger pitching staff, while first baseman Nathan Flores and third baseman Justin Mellano contributed with a couple two hits and two RBI's a piece.

The Dons forced Cypress to go deep into their bullpen after putting up two in the fifth inning and then tacked on five more in the sixth.

Cypress attempted a comeback in the last two innings by scoring three runs in total, but Hoskins came on in relief to record the last two outs.

Santa Ana snapped a five-game losing streak and earned their first win in conference.

On Tuesday, March 21st the Dons will start their next conference series at home against Golden West College. Start time is set for 2:00 PM.
