Dons Fall to Southwestern 4-0 in Non-Conference Matchup

SANTA ANA, Calif. -  Santa Ana College Softball took a break from Orange Empire Conference action and hosted the Southwestern College Jaguars on Monday afternoon.

The Dons fell to the Jaguars by a score of 4-0 thanks to a few timely hits and unlucky bounces in the first inning.

Southwestern posted all four of their runs in the top of the first with two of their hits coming from uncommon bounces. Madison Mendez rolled over a ball that hit the third base bag, resulting in a single to put two runners on. After a Jordyn Beatty RBI single and a fielder's choice, it was Rachel Varela who got an with a single after hitting a ball with wicked spin off the Julia Ariston's glove.

The Jaguars scored three more runs after that, which made all the difference.

Santa Ana did have their chances to score but left 10 runners on throughout the game, including five in the final two innings.

Ariston took the loss in the circle despite holding SWC scoreless for the last six innings.

Sonya Carnal stayed hot at the plate with a couple singles while Mia Luna, Sarah Casey, Julia Ariston and Haley Martinez recorded a hit each.

The Dons will play a few more non-conference games this week starting with a road contest at Pasadena City College on Wednesday at 2:30PM.
