Dons Push Saddleback to Five in OEC Matchup

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana volleyball team pushed the Saddleback Gauchos to five sets in Friday's Orange Empire Conference match but couldn't pull out a win, dropping the match by a score of 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-15, 15-13).

The Dons came out with a sense of urgency and played some of their best volleyball of the season. Santa Ana shocked the Gauchos by taking the first and third set, making the Gauchos to play well with their backs against the wall.

Saddleback was able to escape with a 25-23 win in the second and 25-15 win to force a winner take all fifth set.

The fifth and final set went down to the wire, but the Dons made a couple critical mistakes that ultimately cost them the match as they fell 15-13.

GAME NOTES

Jasmin Cardona was on her game tonight, getting all her weapons involved and racking up a season high 43 assists. Four Dons had nine or more kills with Stephanie Ozokwo leading the way with 16 kills and Hannah DeGrasse finishing with 12. Alexis Santos and Destiny Torres both recorded nine kills on the night.

Santa Ana will enter the second half of conference play when the host Fullerton College on Wednesday, October 17th at 5:00 p.m. The Dons fell to the Hornets 3-1 in their first match earlier this year.
