Santa Ana defeated by Saddleback 11-3

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana Baseball team returned home on Thursday afternoon to host Saddleback College in the second of their three-game Orange Empire Conference series.

With pitcher Nigel Ward taking the mound, the Dons always have a chance to win. But their offensive output wasn't enough to keep up in this one, as they fell to the Gauchos by a score of 11-3.

The Dons fell behind early, giving up multiple runs in each of the first four innings. In the seventh, Santa Ana attempted a comeback powered by three runs on two hits and a couple of Gaucho errors.

Center fielder Erick Leef started it off with a RBI single through the right side, and then Thomas Blood continued the rally by with a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run. The final run of the inning came from left fielder Bryan Leef being hit by a pitch in another bases-loaded situation.

The Santa Ana rally fell short, putting the Dons record at 20-10 overall and 6-8 in conference play. The third and final game of the series will be held at Saddleback College on Friday, Apr. 7th at 2:00 PM.
