The Dons Hit Their Way to a 10-3 Win over Irvine Valley

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The combination of 10 runs and a solid six inning outing from starting pitcher Nigel Ward was enough for the Santa Ana College Baseball team to take down Irvine Valley College in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

Ward had a lot of help from his teammates today, getting 10 runs on 17 hits from the Dons offense. He did his job by going six innings, with three strikeouts and just one earned run.

The Dons found themselves in a couple bases-loaded situations in both the seventh and eighth innings but leaned on their relief pitchers to get them out of trouble. Cole Hoskins took the mound in the sixth and lasted one inning with an earned run, then Gabe Armstrong followed him in the seventh and recorded two hitless innings to go along with two strikeouts.

Julio Rivera, Bryan Leef and Juan Gonzalez powered the Dons offense with three hits apiece. They also combined for eight RBI's in the game.

With the win, the Dons jump to 23-12 overall and 7-9 in conference. They have five games left to play and will continue the three-game series at Irvine Valley College on Thursday, Apr. 20th.
