Santa Ana Baseball Splits Series with Mt. SAC, Drops Home Opener

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana College baseball team hosted Mt. San Antonio College in its home opener and game two of the series on Thursday afternoon at Don Sneddon Field.

In the first game on Wednesday night, the Dons shutout the Mounties 6-0 with the help of Josh Haley's eight inning, 10 strikeout performance. Jacob Ayala finished things off with a scoreless ninth inning while adding two of his own strikeouts.

Mt. SAC turned the tables on Thursday as they came back to knock off the Dons by a score of 7-4 to split the series.

The Dons pitching staff struggled to throw strikes in this one, as they combined for eight walks and seven runs while the Mounties relied on just two pitchers with starter Jacob Kampen going seven innings and Steven Ordorica wrapping up in the last two.

Dane Baker got the start for the Dons again and went 3.2 innings before he was relieved by the bullpen. Seven other pitchers came in behind him to try to piece together a win but none lasted more than one inning.

At the plate, James Williams led the Dons with two hits, a walk, one run and an RBI. Chad Wilson added a hit, a run and an RBI while Raymond Villanueva collected two hits in the leadoff spot.

Santa Ana falls to 4-2 overall with the loss and Mt. San Antonio climbs back to .500 at 3-3.
