Santa Ana Holds on to Defeat Oxnard 10-8

SANTA ANA, Calif. – In their third game in three days, No. 12 Santa Ana baseball held on to defeat the Oxnard Condors 10-8 in a non-conference game.

After building a 9-1 lead capped by a five run sixth inning, the Condors fought their way back, responding with six runs in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to just two runs.

In the eighth, Oxnard added another run on an RBI single from Michael Jester, giving the Dons a one run cushion.

Drake Wood came through in the bottom of the inning as he launched a pitch over left field fence to give the Dons a little more breathing room.

The Dons would hold on with Nathan Cachu taking over on the mound to collect his third save of the year, going the last 1.2 innings with one strikeout. Cade Nash (3-0) was credited with the win after getting through the fifth inning unscathed.

As a team, Santa Ana tagged the Condors with 15 hits with Wood and Raymond Villanueva accounting for three apiece.

Next Tuesday, the Dons will begin their final Orange Empire Conference series of the year as they face No. 3 Orange Coast on the road starting at 2:00 p.m.
