Baker Turns in Strong Outing, Dons Sweep Golden West With 9-2 Win

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Dane Baker turned in one of his best performances of the year to help the No. 9 Santa Ana baseball team complete the sweep of the No. 7 Golden West Rustlers with a 9-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning, Baker cruised to his second win of the season, going 7.1 innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs.  With the win, Baker is now 2-2 with 17 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched.

The Dons (15-6, 5-1) found themselves down after the Rustlers (12-9, 1-5) rallied for two runs in the fifth inning. But Santa Ana got things going soon after, tagging the Rustlers with three runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh.

In the sixth, Drake Wood stayed hot with an RBI single to bring in Frank Garcia for SAC's second run of the day. Wood finished the series 6-13 with four RBI's. The Dons scored a couple more on sacrifice flies from Raymond Villanueva and Tommy Acuna to give them a 4-2 lead.

Santa Ana added another five runs in the seventh, highlighted by a three run double down the left field line from Villanueva.

Golden West had no answer to the Santa Ana rally, leading to a 9-2 win for the Dons and a 3-0 series sweep.
