Holzberg Lifts Dons to 6-5 Win Over Palomar with Walk-Off Single

SANTA ANA, Calif. – With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning and the score tied at 5-5, Madelyn Holzberg lined a single into centerfield to drive in Natalie Crawford for a walk-off win over Palomar College (3-1) on Tuesday afternoon.

Holzberg sent the Santa Ana dugout into a frenzy with her fourth hit and third RBI of the game. The sophomore is hitting .750 (6-8) with just two games under her belt.

Santa Ana had to work its way back from a deficit after giving up a three spot in the top of the first. But the Dons countered with a three-run inning of their own as Adriana Martinez doubled in a pair and Jordan Kyles singled to tie things up.

In the top of the third, Palomar took the lead back with two runs on a couple short singles, giving them a 5-3 advantage.

Not long after, Holzberg came up big once again, pushing a ball down the right field line to bring two more in, tying the game for the Dons.

Starting pitcher Emily Rosas held the Comets scoreless from there, doing just enough to earn her third win of the season. Rosas, a sophomore out of Villa Park, went all seven innings with five strikeouts and five runs.

The win over last year's state runner-up gives Santa Ana a record of 3-1 and a boost in RPI moving forward.
