Kirkpatrick Goes the Distance, SAC Defeats Riverside 10-3

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Brandi Kirkpatrick went the distance on Wednesday to earn her first win of the season as the No .10 Santa Ana softball team defeated Riverside City (3-8, 0-2) 10-3 in Orange Empire Conference play.

Kirkpatrick, a sophomore out of Cypress High, struck out two in seven innings of work while giving up three runs. She also hit leadoff for the Dons and added a hit and an RBI at the plate.

Riverside City opened the game with a productive first inning, scoring first as Annabelle Salas doubled to left center to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

But the Dons had a quick response as they manufactured a run in the bottom of the first and followed with one in the second and three in the third to build a 5-1 lead.

Annabelle Salas helped the Tigers stay in it with solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings but the Dons collectively kept pouring on runs to secure their first OEC win.

Santa Ana was led by Adriana Martinez, who went 3-4 with two runs batted while Jordan Kyles and Kayla Avina joined in with two hits a piece and combined for three RBI's.
