Dons take Second Place in Host Tournament after Loss to Bakersfield

SANTA ANA - The Dons run in their host tournament fell short as they lost 76-66 to visiting Bakersfield College in the championship game of the Bristol Marketplace Classic. The loss drops the Dons to 3-6 while Bakersfield improves to 8-0.

The game remained close through the first 15 minutes with neither team establishing a lead larger than six points. However, with 5:14 left in the first half, Bakersfield got a fast break layup and a free throw following a SAC miss to turn a five-point lead into an eight-point lead before taking a 44-29 lead into the half.

The Renegades would build their lead to as large as 21 points in the second half with the Dons cutting into it as close as 13 points on occasion. The closest the Dons would get late in the game was the 10-point difference at the final score.

Alysia Gamboa led the Dons with 18 points in a losing effort with Rachel Cain adding 15 points and Kylie Rodriguez adding another 13. Bakersfield's Nakia Page led all scorers with 25 points.

Third Place Game
Last year's runner-up Moorpark College took third place as the Raiders defeated San Bernardino Valley College 56-50.

Consolation Championship
West Hills College-Lemoore won the consolation championship with a 58-50 win over Merced College in overtime.
