Jocelyn Calvillo Commits to Continue Academic and Athletic Career at Whittier College

After two years as a member of the Santa Ana College women's basketball team, Jocelyn Calvillo has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Whittier College. She will be pursuing a major in business communications as she was accepted to Whittier on a full academic scholarship.

Calvillo played in 57 games at SAC while making 25 starts. Last season, she started 24 of the 28 games she appeared in while averaging 5.6 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game. She completed her SAC career on a high note as she scored the game-winning point in the Dons season-ending 80-79 victory over Riverside City College.

Calvillo was also a member of the 2013-14 squad that qualified for the California Community College Athletic Association Southern Regional Playoffs. The Dons opened the playoffs with a 78-71 victory over Cerritos College before traveling to eventual state champion Ventura College.

"I was really happy coming to Santa Ana and I'm glad I made the decision to come here," Calvillo said. "It definitely made me become a better person and I'm happy with where I'm at and where SAC has gotten me."

She went on to say that SAC is "a great school. I had a great time playing basketball here. The coaches are great, my teammates are great and I had a great two years. I couldn't ask for a better time at SAC."

Moving forward, Calvillo will be joining a Poets team that ended the 2014-15 season with a three-game winning streak. Whittier finished the year 12-12 overall and 8-8 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, placing the Poets fifth in the conference.

Dons Head Coach Flo Luppani said Calvillo's commitment was a direct reflection of her program's goals of focusing on academics and athletics. "I'm very proud that she's going to Whittier," Luppani said. "Especially because of the quality of education and the quality of play in the SCIAC. I know she's going to have a blast and I know they're thrilled to have her. She's going to be a great addition to that team."
