SAC Drops OEC Contest to Fullerton, 67-60

SANTA ANA, Calif. - It was a back and forth affair as the Santa Ana College Women's Basketball team hosted the Fullerton College Hornets (10-7, 1-2) in Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday night.

Santa Ana (11-6, 1-2) fell behind by 13 (15-2) in the first nine minutes of play but slowly worked themselves back into the game.

Dylyn Payne came off the bench to give the Dons some much needed energy in the second quarter as she scored 11 on 4-of-5 shooting with a trio of three pointers. SAC found themselves down just 31-22 at the half despite the slow start.

In the third, Dons made some adjustments defensively to hold the Hornets to just 13 in the quarter. They also played more as a team on offense with seven players scoring in the quarter to make it a 44-41 game entering the last 10 minutes.

The Dons quickly surged ahead after getting free throws from a Hornet technical foul followed by three pointers from Katelyn Morales and Larissa Robles. Santa Ana continued to play well early in the quarter and built an eight point lead (54-46) by the 5:53 mark.

But Fullerton would not go away and responded with their own run down the stretch. The Hornets ended the game on a 21-6 run to regain the lead and fight off the Dons for the win.

SAC was right where they wanted to be but suffered the loss largely because of their season high 34 turnovers.

Robles scored a team high 19 to go with 10 rebounds while Payne added 18 points and seven boards to join her in double-digits.

Santa Ana also got nine points combined from Katelyn Morales and Kylie Pulsifer off the while Lucila Medina made her mark with 13 rebounds and a couple points after being inserted into the starting lineup.

The Dons will try to bounce back as they head to Saddleback College to face the Bobcats on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
