No. 16 Santa Ana Fails to Cash in on Opportunities, Falls to GWC 2-1

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Opportunities came early and often for the Santa Ana College women's soccer team as they hosted the Golden West Rustlers (5-5-2, 2-3-1) on Friday. But the No. 16 ranked Dons (7-5-0, 1-5-0) failed to cash in them, resulting in 2-1 loss.

The Dons started from behind after the Ana Sofia Rodriguez scored first for the Rustlers in the 32nd minute.

Just a few minutes later, Leyna Wood put away her 14th goal of the season to even things up on a pass from Ariana Figueroa in the 36th minute.

In the second half, Golden West managed to score once again, as Jack Rodriguez chipped one into the Santa Ana goal to put the Rustlers up 2-1.

Although the Dons were able to draw a couple corner kicks and free kicks from just inside the box, they couldn't come up with another goal, falling to the Rustlers 2-1.

Santa Ana held a 16-7 advantage in shots and was up 3-1 in corner kicks in the match.

The Dons suffered from the injury bug, as four of their usual starts were held out of the match. SAC hopes to get healthy before they host Orange Coast (5-8-1, 2-4) on Tuesday, October 22nd at 3:00 p.m.
