Santa Ana Overpowers IVC 3-0 to Send Sophomores Out on Top

SANTA ANA. Calif. – With 11 sophomores on the roster, it was a big day for the Santa Ana women's soccer team as the Dons hosted Irvine Valley College in the final home match of the 2019 season.

SAC played with energy from the start and came away with a dominating 3-0 shutout win to send those sophomores out with a bang.

Leyna Wood put in the first goal with a header off a corner kick from Ariana Figueroa in the 12th minute of action. Leyna sent her 19th goal into the IVC net to extend her lead atop of the list of Orange Empire Conference goal scorers. She now has five more than any other player with Cypress' Audree Campos being the closest at 14.

In the 17th minute, Lauryn Wood gave the Dons a 2-0 lead with her first goal of the season as Figueroa set her up to record her eighth assists of the season, which positions her tied for the most in the OEC.

After going into the half with a comfortable lead, Santa Ana closed the door with their third goal of the match in 48th minute as Lauryn scored her second goal of the year on a long ball set up by Linda Gutierrez.

The Dons improved to 8-8-2, 2-8-2 with the win, just passing up the IVC Lasers in the standings as they drop to 5-12-3, 2-9-1.
