Santa Ana Battles to 3-3 Draw Against Orange Coast

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana women's soccer battled out a 3-3 draw against Orange Coast College in Orange Empire Conference action on Tuesday.

It was an up and down match for both teams, as each side held the lead at some point.

OCC started the scoring with a goal by Lynette Romero in the 14th minute. Almost a minute later, Linda Gutierrez sent a bouncing ball into the right corner of the net to tie the score at 1-1.

Santa Ana took the momentum from there, adding another goal in the 16th minute when Mya Rodriguez set up Leyna Wood for her 15th goal of the season. Wood leads the OEC in goals scored and is ranked 5th in the state.

Later in the first half, Ariana Figueroa gave the Dons their third goal of the day on an assist from Wood in the 33rd minute, putting the OCC deficit at 3-1. Like clockwork, the Pirates responded right away, scoring on a penalty kick given on a handball in the box in the 34th minute.

The score would remain the same until the 88th minute when the Pirates were awarded yet another penalty kick, this time on a foul in the box. Romero scored her third goal of the match to uphold the 3-3 draw.

Santa Ana snapped a four game losing streak with the tie, setting their record at 7-5-1, 1-5-1 while OCC moves to 5-8-2, 2-4-1 on the season.

NEXT UP: The Dons get a rematch against Santiago Canyon on Friday, October 25th. SCC took the first match against the two by score of 2-1.
