Dons Struggle to Get Runs in 10-2 Loss to Cypress College

SANTA ANA - The Dons dropped their second straight Orange Empire Conference game after falling to Cypress College 10-2 at home. Both team's sent their undefeated pitcher's to the mound, but it was the Chargers (13-6, 4-3) who got the advantage and jumped the Dons (14-5, 3-4) in the standings.

Stephen Kane (6-0) gave up 10 hits in his 7.2 innings of work but allowed just two runs to cross home plate. For the Dons, Matt Blanchard (5-1) suffered his first loss despite allowing just two earned runs on six hits over three innings. However, two errors behind him helped the Chargers to four unearned runs as Blanchard left the game down 6-1.

Cypress would go on to add a run in the fourth and three more unearned runs in the fifth as the Dons committed four errors in the game.

Offensively, the Dons got strong performances from Daniel Martinez and Blake Walker who combined to reach base 10 times on 10 plate appearances. Martinez went 3-for-3 with two walks while Walker finished 3-for-3 while getting hit by a pitch twice.

Martinez drove in the Dons first run of the game on a RBI-single to left field in the third that scored Walker before Julio Garcia singled in Martinez in the sixth for the other run.

The Dons look to bounce back in their next game when they host Fullerton College on Saturday, March 16 at 12:00 p.m.
