Ryan Chapman and Former Don Scott Brattvet Selected in 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft

After two seasons with the Dons, Ryan Chapman was taken as the 986th overall selection by the New York Mets in the 33rd round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He was the second pitcher from the Dons program drafted after former pitcher Scott Brattvet was taken in the eighth round by the Cincinnati Reds.

Chapman has pitched out of the bullpen for the Dons the past two seasons, finishing 3-2 overall in 17.2 innings of work. As a sophomore, Chapman made 11 appearances over 15.2 innings with 18 strikeouts and a 2-2 record.

Prior to Chapman's selection, the Cincinnati Reds drafted Cal State Bakersfield's Scott Brattvet in the eighth round with the 255th overall selection. Brattvet spent the last two season at CSU Bakersfield after pitching for the Dons from 2010-11.

In two seasons with the Dons, Brattvet made 49 appearances over 54.2 innings pitched with a 4-1 record and 4 saves. His standout season came his freshman year when he finished 3-0 in 23 appearances with two saves.

At Bakersfield, Brattvet finished his collegiate career by going 9-1 in 15 starts in his senior season with a 2.55 ERA over 98.2 innings. The All-Conference selection struck out 70 batters while holding opponents to a .251 batting average. In his junior season, Brattvet tied for the team lead with six wins while also pitching three complete games in 14 starts.

Brattvet was just the eighth player in Bakersfield history to be drafted since the program's inception in 2009. He is now the highest player to be drafted out of Bakersfield as an eighth rounder.
