SAC Men’s Basketball Earns First Win of the New Year

SANTA ANA, Calif.  - The Santa Ana College Men's Basketball team earned its first win of the new year with an 81-60 rout of the Golden West Rustlers (1-14, 0-3) on Friday night.

SAC (7-8, 1-2) was locked in defensively, holding the Rustlers to a field goal percentage of just 37.1 while Kaden Minter led the charge offensively with 31 points.

Minter opened the game with his own personal 7-0 run to set the tone for the Dons. The freshman from Mater Dei also grabbed 12 rebounds and added five assists in the win.

Fellow freshman Mac West extended his double-digit scoring streak to 15 games with a 16 point, 10 rebound performance.

Santa Ana bigs Court Franklin and Ja'Von Maxwell made all the difference for the Dons as both played extremely well down low. Franklin finished with nine points, 13 boards and a block while Maxwell posted eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

The duo gave SAC the physicality they needed to out rebound the Rustlers 57-26, which was a huge factor in the final result.

And point guards Karson Roberts and Zeke Bennett were solid as they combined for 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

The win marks the first in Orange Empire Conference play for the Dons. They'll look to make it a streak when they host Irvine Valley College on Wednesday, January 10th at 5:00 p.m.
