Gomez and Mierzwa Score off the Bench to Lead Dons to 2-0 Win

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Men's Soccer team picked up a much needed quality win as their bench stepped up to help them defeat the Long Beach City Vikings (3-2-1) by a score of 2-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

In the first half, the teams seemed evenly matched with both getting good opportunities offensively. But it was the Dons (2-2-1) who broke through at the 31 minute mark when Gilbert Gomez made a run and put away a pass from Marck Rayo to score his first goal of the season.

Although Santa Ana took their lead into halftime they couldn't be comfortable with a formidable Viking team being just one score away from a tie.

With about 20 minutes left, Michael Mierzwa gave the Dons some breathing room after chipping in a cross from Edward Newbhard to make it a 2-0 game. SAC would hold on to earn their second win of the season.

Santa Ana will now go on the road for three consecutive games starting with San Bernardino City on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
