Gonzalez’s Grand Slam Propels Dons to 11-7 Win

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  Juan Gonzalez came up big with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, wiping away the 7-3 lead that San Bernardino Valley built with one swing of the bat.

Gonzalez crushed a pitch over the right center field wall for the grand slam to tie the game and give the Dons some much needed momentum. The Dons went on to win the game 11-7 after holding the Wolverines scoreless for the last four innings while tagging on four more runs themselves.

Nathan Flores and Bryan Leef were also key factors for the Dons, combining for four hits and four runs batted in. Both outfielders recorded triples late in the game to drive in some insurance runs.

Sophomore pitcher Jay Edwards earned his second win of the season with three innings pitched, two earned runs and three strikeouts and Braeden Wallace closed it out in the last two innings for his first save of the year.

The Dons climb back to .500 at 5-5 after the win, while San Bernardino Valley drops to 4-6 overall.

Santa Ana will wrap up a long week with another home game on Saturday, as they host San Diego Mesa College at 12:00 p.m.
